Geïnspireerd door de kinetische lichamelijkheid en esthetiek van evenwicht in het werk van Ken Unsworth, belichaamt de muziek een gevoel van opschorting tussen beweging en stilstand. Evoluerende en draaiende melodieën, vakkundig in polyritmische structuren geplaatst, creëert de muziek een bedwelmende en emotionele indruk. Er is een gevoel van constante beweging en stroom van sonische stromingen dat veel van Kate Moore’s muziek typeert.
De muziek verschuift van de materiële wereld, de geleidelijk verschuivende steenachtige cycli van het titelnummer “Revolver”, de ingetogen kracht en ontroering van “The Boxer” naar de verschillende langzaam ontvouwende melodieën van het op koord geïnspireerde “Song Of Ropes”, en eindelijk tot een contemplatie van het immateriële in “Way Of The Dead”

Van maandag 12 augustus t/m zondag 1 september zal componist Kate Moore in haar residentie werken aan het Ossenlied vanuit het onderzoeksproject A Beautiful Path.
Het Ossenlied wordt een 54-daagse wandeling door Nederland, Engeland, Wales en Ierland van Oss naar Skellig Michael via Oxford om een epische verhalencyclus op muziek te componeren. Geïnspireerd door troubadours en epische dichters uit de oudheid, in de traditie van de Tain, Edda, Mabinogion en Beowulf en de Canterbury Tales, wordt componiste Kate Moore geïnspireerd om haar eigen verhalencyclus te schrijven terwijl ze lange afstanden loopt en componeert met een lier en vielle, die ze bij zich draagt.

Plein Theater biedt een podium aan hedendaagse muziek. Avontuurlijke en kleinschalige uitvoeringen, nieuwe composities en toonaangevende musici; In onze serie Nieuwe Noten Amsterdam krijg je maandelijks de kans om dit unieke concept in intieme sfeer te ervaren. In de zomer van 2024 zetten we de deuren van ons productiehuis wagenwijd open. In de Summer of Music in en rondom het Plein Theater in Amsterdam Oost ontdek je multidisciplinaire composities, krijg je exclusieve work-in-progress inkijkjes en kan je deel uitmaken van bijzondere onderzoeksprojecten. #GetInvolved!
KATE MOORE | ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2024
Elke zomer nodigt Plein Theater een artist-in-residence uit, een kunstenaar die een aantal weken de kans krijgt om een uitvoering verder door te ontwikkelen en buurtbewoners en geïnteresseerden te betrekken bij het maakproces. We zijn enorm enthousiast om componist Kate Moore te verwelkomen als de artist-in-residence 2024!
Kate Moore woont zelf ook in Amsterdam Oost en is niet zomaar een componist; ze heeft internationale erkenning verdiend en haar werken worden uitgevoerd door toonaangevende ensembles. Ze heeft verschillende prijzen op haar naam staan, waaronder de Gieskes-Strijbus Podiumprijs in 2022 en de prestigieuze Matthijs Vermeulenprijs in 2017. Bovendien heeft ze haar eigen ensemble, het Herz Ensemble, opgericht!

Met haar onderzoek daagt de componist zichzelf uit het creatieve proces te verkennen door middel van schrijven, componeren, improviseren en documenteren in dialoog met de natuur en de omgeving, gedurende het bewandelen van langeafstandsroutes met muziekinstrumenten.

Inspired by the kinetic physicality and aesthetics of balance found in Ken Unsworth’s work, the music embodies a feeling of suspension between movement and stasis. Evolving and revolving melodies, poised skilfully in polyrhythmic structures, the music creates an intoxicating and emotional impression. There is a feeling of constant motion and flow of sonic currents that typifies much of Kate Moore’s music.
The music shifts from the material world, the gradually shifting stone-like cycles of the title track “Revolver”, the restrained power and poignancy of “The Boxer” to the various slow unfurling melodies of the tightrope inspired “Song Of Ropes”, and finally to a contemplation of the immaterial in “Way Of The Dead”

Het Ossenlied (The Ox Song) will be a 54-day hike across Netherlands, England, Wales, Ireland from Oss to Skellig Michael through Oxford to compose an epic story cycle set to music. Inspired by troubadours and epic poets of ancient times, following in the tradition of the Tain, Edda, Mabinogion and Beowulf and the Canterbury Tales, composer Kate Moore is inpired to write her own story cycle while long distance walking and composing with a lyre and vielle that she carries with her.

Every summer Plein Theater invites an artist-in-residence, an artist who will have the opportunity for a few weeks to further develop a performance and with locals and interested participants in the creative process. We are extremely excited to welcome composer Kate Moore as the artist-in-residence 2024!
Kate Moore lives in Amsterdam East and is not just a composer, she earned international recognition and her work has been performed by leading ensembles. She has several prizes to her name including the Gieskes-Strijbis Podium Prize in 2022 and the prestigious Matthijs Vermeulen Prize in 2017. To top it off she founded her own ensemble, the Herz Ensemble!
